A new collection of Footbag Net videos from the 2003 World Footbag Championships

This time we're travelling back in time to 2003. As a player it was one of the greatest years for me. I was fortunate enough to be on the team that won the Footbag net World doubles title. It was also a keystone moment in the short but vibrant footbag's history. Imagine, the first World Championships played in Europe.

For more information about this collection and the tournament click here.

The videos in this series were filmed in Prague, Czech Republic. in SD format. Check this out:

The 2013 World Footbag Championships Freestyle Routines Finals - Online now

The 2013 World Footbag Championships were in my hometown that year. Here is the online album with the 11 routines that I filmed on freestyle finals day. From Montreal with love!                      Deals
Footbag Net here.

Women Singles Routines finals

Four competitors made it to the finals in 2013: Chrissy Fryer, Caroline Birch, Hanna Mickiewicz and the winner Cassandra Taylor. Honestly that was a weak year for the women's routines. Cassandra won with an honest routine, nothing too spectacular, but the others dropped the footbag way too often. I didn't film Chrissy Fryer's routine due to technical problems. The 3 others complete routines are documented in this album. Judge for yourself.

Open Singles Routines finals

Even though some of the superstars were missing we still were graced with top performances on the men's side. Jan ''Honza'' Weber, the champion of 2012, was in the house and he gave the crowd a nice visual treat. In fact I think that most of the players did pretty good. Jindra Smola the youngest player performed the only dropless of the contest, nicely done. Aleksi Airinen was solid but could have gone a little further in difficulty. Rene Ruhr had some nice juggling and high difficulties in his routine. Felix Zenger, whom we haven't seen since, had a very energitic and difficult routine as well. The three americans that obtained the remaining positions were good too. Ken Somolinos showed some major skills and really nice choreography. Dustin Rhodes came in with a better original seed than 7th so his problem was a few unfortunate drops. The last one, Chris Dean, had some interesting moments too.
Overall this was excellent freestyle.

On the Album you will find movies with the complete rounds of women and open freestyle in the order that the players performed.
You will also be able to enjoy each of the routines in solo for quicker views.

The 2016 World Footbag Championships Freestyle ''The Finals'' on demand Video album is ready

Trnava, Slovakia               DEALS            Footbag Net

At the other end of the world for me. I'm here to play Footbag Net but also to document the two last days of competition. On day 1 the freestyle events were the finals of Shred 30 and the Circle Contest finals as well. On day 2 we had the Women Circle Contest, the Open Doubles Routines, the Women Routines and finally the Open Routines finals. Lets watch the trailer and then I'll push the descriptions a little further.

Shred 30 finals

I like Shred 30, it's fast, the players succeed to each other while the raging techno music doesn't stop. Some shred their heart out and others have a more technical or mathematical approach. Alexander Trenner from Austria won it over Taishi Ishida from Japan. The other contestants were; Mariusz Wilk, Evan Gatesman, Dominik Simku, Patrik Cerny, Jakub Mosciszewski, Mikko Lepisto and Krystof Malér. Judge for yourself.

The Circle Contest finals

The Circle Contest in Copenhagen in 2015 were insane and a few of the top players were missing this year. Evan Gatesman was the only one from last year's top four to be on site. He won it brilliantly but Mariusz Wilk and Jakub Mosciszewski had great runs too, Mikko Lepisto was not at the same level this time. The contest was divided in two phases: Variety and density so there is a clip for each one in the Album.

Open Doubles Routines finals

The team freestyle event had their returning champions ready to rock once more. After winning the 2014 (Paris) and 2015 (Copenhagen) the World title holders offered a quasi flawless execution of their routine. Tomas Tucek and Martin Sladek confirmed their domination on the discipline with this threepeat.
In second place Paloma Mayo and Sergio Garcia from Madrid were handicapped greatly by Paloma's knee injury. She went all the way...with pain. The 3rd place went to two clowns, Patrik Cerny and Dominik Simku wearing masks of the Champions made us laugh but stroke a wall in terms of performance.

Women Singles Routines finals

The return of the queen, Tina Aeberli from Switzerland came back to win the title after missing the 2015 Championships. It is unfortunate that last year's champion, Paloma Mayo, hurt her knee during the earlier rounds and couldn't offer her best to put some pressure on the best female freestyler of all times.
You will also see the routines of Lena Scheiwiller and Caroline Birch on the album.

Open Singles Routines finals

The Open Singles suffered from the lack of depth caused by a lot of missing players compared to 2015 but the greatest dissapointment came from an ankle injury that happened in the first rounds of the tournament. I was really looking forward to the return of another Czech prodigy. Unfortunately Jindra Smola couldn't perform, he was a routines winner in 2014 (Paris) and the runner up in 2013 (Montreal)  . On the other hand this was an opportunity for some youngsters to make a name for themselves.
Evan Gatesman took the title for the first time and that completed a great cycle for him as this was the only freestyle title missing in his collection. The second place went to footbag freestyle legend Vasek Klouda who managed to show some great stuff on one leg with the lowest drop count with only one. Yep another injury to a leg. The third place went to Patrik Cerny from the ever prolific Czech Republic.
All the other players that made it to that round are also featured in the album:
Rafal Kaleta, Jakub Mosciszewski, Dominik Simku, Taishi Ishida, Arkadiusz Stanek and Krystof Malér.

Women Circle Contest finals

The women circle contest went directly to the finals round with 6 contestants, and often this caused a player to be in the way of the performer so it is here as documentation. Fortunately the area was clear when Tina Aeberli's turns were coming so we can see her quite well in the clip. She also managed to win it over 2. Hanna Mickiewicz 3. Jana Sassakova 4. Lena Scheiwiller 5. Caroline Birch and 6. Nina Stuppacher.

The 2010 Akisphere footbag net doubles videos are online

The 2010 Akisphère was a great tournament, the weather was good on finals day which is a requirement for a successful outdoors tournament and the level was high. Watch François Depatie-Pelletier and Gilles Demers take care of the opposition in the doubles finals match. This was their final preparation for the 2010 World Footbag Championships in which the made the finals. Although they lost that match it is remembered as one of the best doubles finals ever but without the fierce opponents they had in Montreal, PT Lovern and Manu Bouchard, it would have been more difficult for them to reach for the top.

Here are the best moments of the 2010 Akisphère doubles finals as captured and edited by Yves Archambault

The 2015 Akisphère Montreal Footbag net tournament doubles podium videos are live

The 2015 Akisphère was a survivalist tournament. Only a few locals participated in a tournament that once was one of the best on the Footbag net tour. Nonetheless, with a few former World champions chipin' in, the level of play was decent if not great. Here are links to a couple of videos that will give you an idea of the prowesses that the Montreal players are still able to produce, Let's start with the doubles.

And then the highlights for the doubles 3rd place match can be found on this page as well as the complete results and description of the matches

The 2012 Akisphère Montreal Footbag net tournament doubles finals videos are live

It took a while but you can finally see the 2012 Akisphère doubles finals videos.
There was some high octane action in this match, unbelievable spiking by PT Lovern and François Depatie-Pelletier, a classic Aki Québec vs Chaos duel.
