The World Footbag Championships revisits Montreal 10 years later
The Aki Québec footbag club organized a very nice 34th World Footbag Championships.
Under the inspiration of the clup president Luka Weyler-Lavallée, who was only 23 years old then, the crew worked hard to secure a superb location at the Cegep of Old Montreal. A huge gym with 16 courts was used for the net matches and another spacy gym received the freestyle crowd.
So we had a very cool week of competition, yes I was there to play, film, help out and enjoy the action from July 28 to August 3, 2013
As of now only the net videos are available due to the touchy nature of using popular music in the freestyle events.

Videos in the order that the matches were played:
Women singles net finals
Competitors:Geneviève Bousquet from Montreal, Canada - Club Aki Québec vs
Marilyn Demuy from Montreal, Canada - Club Aki Québec - representing Pro Kicker
Format Best of 3 games to 21 points, rallye scoring
The spectators witnessed an interesting duel between two very talented players. The 2 first games were settled on identical scores but
going for different winners. Bousquet managed to stay solid in the third game while Demuy seemed tired.
Bousquet wins: 21-17 17-21 21-11
Open singles net finals
Competitors:Karim Daouk from Lausanne, Switzerland - Club Les pieds à Gilles vs
Tuomas Kärki from Finland - Club Footbag Finland
Format Best of 3 games to 21 points, rallye scoring, no cap.
Karim Daouk probably has the best serve in terms of speed on the footbag tour so it was a big challenge for Kärki to control the serve reception and he did, brilliantly, most of the time. This was a very entertaining match with lots of spikes and rallyes.
Daouk wins in 3 sets 26-24 16-21 21-17
Women doubles net finals
Competitors:Maude Landreville + Geneviève Bousquet from Montreal, Canada - Club Aki Québec vs Piia Tantarimäki from Finland - Club Footbag Finland + Kerstin Anhuth from Frankfurt, Germany - Club Frankfurt Footbag e.v.
Format: Best of 3 to 15 points, side out scoring
This wasn't much of a match the players from Aki Québec were just too strong for their opponents and the played fiercely. Montreal finishes on top with a convincing victory in 2 straight sets 15-1 15-4
Mixed doubles net finals
Competitors:François Depatie-Pelletier + Marilyn Demuy from Montreal, Canada - Club Aki Québec - representing Pro Kicker vs
Florian Götze + Kerstin Anhuth from Frankfurt, Germany - Club Frankfurt Footbag e.v.
Format: Best of 3 to 15 points, side out scoring
Wow this match had a lot of twists and turns. The german team won the first game easily but the Montrealers bounced back in the 2nd game. The third game seemed in the pocket while Florian and Kerstin had a big lead but François and Marilyn managed to set up a huge comeback. Lots of drama, spikes, digs, blocks, rallyes and errors. A full plate of footbag fun.
Pro Kicker wins it by 7-15 15-12-15-13
Open doubles net finals
Competitors:Florian Götze from Frankfurt, Germany - Club Frankfurt Footbag e.v. + Patrick Schrickel from Germany (lives in California) - Clubs FC Footstar and Chaos vs
François Depatie-Pelletier + Luc Legault from Montreal, Canada - Club Aki Québec
Format: Best of 3 to 15 points, side out scoring
Probably that this was one of the most exciting matches that I ever witnessed although my friends from Montreal couldn't succeed at winning it. Super exciting action, mostly from game 2, as game 1 looked more like an observation round. There was serious controversy in game 2 and a dubious call could have ended the match instead it gave a chance to the montrealers to come back and win it. In the 3rd game Depatie-Pelletier and Legault seemed to be en route to a clear win. But being 3 point away from victory can be an uphill road when you face such champions as Götze and Schrickel! So the scenario from mixed was inverted and the germans mounted a comeback and took the title for the 5th time. (2006, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2013) Florian added 2 more titles with different partners at Worlds 2011 and 2012
The germans win the 2013 open doubles title 15-10 15-17 15-13
