Akisphere 2018

AKISPHERE 2018 - Montreal - July 6-8

The annual Montreal Footbag Net tournament always offers some pretty exciting play. As the local club has great players it has a solid base for the quality of play. In the 2018 edition, the tournament was reinforced by some out of town foot artists. Jeremy Mirken came all the way from California to team up with Geneviève Bousquet in the mixed doubles event, that they won. Evanne Lamarche all the way from Vancouver BC also teamed up with Geneviève in the Women's doubles finals. The Open doubles was an all-local affair.

Check out this trailer and don't hesitate to buy the On-Demand album featuring most of the games from these three finals.

AKISPHERE 2018 ACTION PACK from Pro Kicker

AKISPHERE 2018 - Open doubles finals
François Depatie-Pelletier and Manu Bouchard pretty much crushed all opposition during the earlier stages of the tournament. Their opponents in the finals, Luc Legault and Martin Côté,  were pretty much handed the same fate. Two games, 15-7, 15-7. You can see the artists at work in the album's play by play with scores and a lot of slow motion of the best actions.

AKISPHERE 2018 - Women's doubles finals
The women's doubles finals offered a two-stage operation. Maude Landreville and Marilyn Demuy won the first game of the best of three easily by a score of 15-7. In the second game, Evanne Lamarche and Geneviève Bousquet fought tooth and nail to bite back at the champs, to no avail in the end. The second game went to Maude and Marilyn 17-15 in a total of 69 plays. This was a good preparation for them en route to the World Footbag Championships that they also won a couple of weeks later. The complete match with scores and slow-mo is available in the action pack.

AKISPHERE 2018 - Mixed doubles finals
The Mixed doubles finals were the most exciting match of the weekend. Our Californian guest Jeremy Mirken had a slow start in game one as he was a bit rusty. He took much better care of his partner's (Geneviève Bousquet) beautiful sets in games 2 and 3.  On the other hand, their opponents, Luc Legault and Marilyn Demuy played better in game 1 but failed to keep the level up as the match progressed.
The second game of the match was not filmed due to technical difficulties but you'll find the entirety of games 1 and 3 in the Action Pack.
